Suru-uutinen on saavuttanut meidät kaikki, tanssijat, opettajat ja oppilaat tanssin kentällä. Meidän niin monen tärkein oppiäiti on poissa. Kuulun kiitollisena tähän etuoikeutettuun joukkoon, jotka saivat olla Mirja-Liisa Herhin eli Mipan oppilaina. Hän on vaikuttanut tanssin askeleihini ja tanssista ajattelemiseen siitä päivästä lähtien kun hänet tapasin.
Hän opetti minua nuorena opettajaopiskelijana Kuopion konservatorion historiallisten tanssien kurssilla, ja me kaikki kai pelkäsimme häntä jonkin verran hänen tarkan kritiikkinsä pelossa.
Päättöharjoittelupaikakseni valitsin Turun seudun tanssioppilaitoksen, jossa Mippa oli rehtorina. Ajattelin, että jos en opi tätä ammattia siellä, niin sitten en missään.
Ensimmäisellä tanssitunnilla, jossa olin itse oppilaana, hän totesi minulle tyypilliseen tapaansa
" Sinä et osaa tanssia ollenkaan, mutta älä huolestu, minä opetan ". Ja hän todella opetti ja avasi kaikki ovet, jotta voisin oppia ja tanssia myös itse lisää. Mikä parasta, kun kerran oli hänen oppilaansa, niin sellaisena myös säilyi. Aina hänet nähdessään sai olla valmiina opastukseen omasta työstään.
Opetuksessani hänen kädenjälkensä on läsnä joka tunnilla, oikea vartalon linjaus, oikea lihasten käyttö, tanssimisen ilon löytämisen rohkaiseminen niin ihan pienten kuin isojen opettamisessa unohtamatta tarkkuutta ja musikaalisuutta.
Vasta viime tiistaina tanssikauden päätöksessä tanssimme Farandolen yhdessä 5-6-vuotiaiden ja heidän vanhempiensa kanssa. Sen saman Farandolen, jonka Mippa oli opettanut kauan sitten.
Jotkut meistä jatkavat elämäänsä, vaikka eivät ole täällä enää meidän kanssamme.
Mippa on yksi heistä.

Mirja-Liisa Herhi`s passing away has reached us all in the field of dance. There is true sorrow in the minds of dancers, teachers and her students. She was the most sigificant teacher for so many of us.
It was a priviledge to be one of her many many dance students. I´wll walways be grateful that I was her student. She´s been influencing my dancing and my thinking about dance since the day I met her.
She taught historiacal dances in the Kuopio Conservartory, where I was a dance teacher student.
We all wee a litte bit afraid of her because of her precise feed back she gave. I chose her dance school in Turku to be a trainee teacher, because I thought that if I don´t learn this work there, then I won´t learn it so well in any other Place.
During my first own dance lesson she told me in her typical way" Oh, you can´t dance att all, but don´t worry, I´ll teach you how". And so she did, and she also opened all the doors for me to learn and dance more. The best thing was, that once you were her student once, you stayed her student. Whenever and where-ever you met her, you had better be prepared to hear good advice and guidance about your work and dancing.
In my work as a dance teacher, her influence is still important daily. The correct body alignment, the correct use of the muscles of body, keeping up the joy in dancing with little and older dancers. The precision of dance movements and the musicality.Those are all her thesis I try to pass on to my students.
Only last Tuesday did we dance a Farandole with the 5-6-years old dance students and their parents. The same Farandole Mippa had taught me so long ago.
Some of us keep living on, atlhough they are not here with us anymore.
Mippa is one of them.
