Taaperotanssin yksi osa on erilaisiin liikuntavälineisiin tutustuminen. Vanteet ovat todella mieleisiä pienille lapsille. Ne ovat suuria, mutta kevyitä. Lapsi saa suuren kappaleen haltuun, ja se lisää lapsen itsenäisyyden tunnetta ja tuottaa mielihyvää.
Vuosien varrella olen nähnyt lukemattomia erilaisia leikkejä vanteilla. Muutamia viikkoja sitten tiistain tanssiryhmämme kohta 3-vuotiais pieni poika sanoitti merkittävän tekemänsä havainnon.
Hän sanoi "maapallo " äidilleen, ja niin äiti laittoi kaksi vannetta ristiin, ja poika liikkui sisään ja ulos maapallosta. Sitten äiti taisi laittaa vanteet toiseen asentoon ristikkäin ja johon poika totesi "Saturnus", ja tanssin Saturnuksessa. Lasten suusta kuulee totuuden, sanotaan, mutta sieltä kuulee myös joskus ne pysäyttävät oivallukset, joita lapsi tekee yhdistellen asioita luovasti. Tämä tanssijapoika avasi ikkunan opetuksen integraation mahdollisuuksiin. Minua jäi harmittamaan, että tanssisalissa ei ollut havaintomallia Saturnuksesta renkaineen ja karttapalloa, jota olisi voinut jäädä tutkimaan tanssihetken jälkeen. Näin muutkin lapset olisivat voineet tehdä samoja havaintoja, jotka tämä poika pystyi tekemään jo aikaisemmin oppimaansa yhdistellen. Paljon puhutaan kokonaisvaltaisesta oppimisesta, tässä olisi yksi malli. Tähän on tartuttava!
p.s Ja eivät vain lapset keksi luovia ratkaisuja, kuvassa on yhden isän keksimä vanteiden asettelumalli, jossa voi kulkea esim. eri tasoissa vanteen läpi. Sille ei vaan vielä ole nimeä, laita viesti, jos keksit tai lapsesi keksii sille nimen!

One part of Toddlers´ Dance is learning about different exercise tools and how to handle them. Hula hoops are really popular with little children. The hoops are large but light. A child is able to handle a big object on his or her own. That creates a sense of independency for the children, not to mention the joy they are having with the hoops.
During my teaching years I´ve seen countless ways how to play and dance with the hoops. But few weeks ago a little boy age almost three spoke out his significant observation. He said "globe" to his mother who crossed two hoops and the little boy stepped in and out of the globe. Then the mother crossed the hoops differently and the boy just said "Saturn" and danced in the Saturn. Children tell the truth, it is a saying, but sometimes we learn new insights from children and their creative way of combining things and observations.
This little boy opened a window for us to see the way integrated learning works. I was only sorry not to have a model of Saturn in our dance class or a globe that children could have taken a look and explored after our dance lesson. Other children could have made the same observations than this boy already had made by combining knowledge he had learned earlier with this new element - hoops.
There is so much talk about the possibilities of integrated, holistic learning. Here I was introduced to one example of it. Let´s seize it!
p.s It is not only the children who come up with creative solutions. In the picture above there is one other new model for hoops created by one dancing father. He just didn´t invent a name for it. If you or your child finds a name for this hoop statue, please let me know!
