Muotoja - Shapes
Omasta kehosta muodostuu monia ympyröitä, kaarevia muotoja. Kulmikkaitakin muotoja löytyy, mutta esim. kolmikulmio on jo haasteellisempi muodostaa. Muotojen toteuttaminen on myös helppo tapa aloitaa parityöskentely, ja silloin uusia luovia ratkaisuja syntyy nopeasti lisää.
Kuvassa oleva neliö on rakennetty yhdessä 4-vuotiaiden oppilaiden kanssa. Suuressa tilassa lattialla oleva muoto on haastava hahmottaa.
There are many learning contents in childrens´dance lessons. One of them is the perception of different shapes. I´ve been doing different shape exercises with the 4-6 year old dance students lately. The first shapes are cirle, triangle and quadrangle. The children find the shapes in pictures easily, and are very keen on looking for the shapes in their enviroment. One can find many round shapes in his or hers own body, creating circles. One can find many angular shapes easily too, but creating for example a triangle is more challening to find. Creating shapes is also a wonderful way to begin work as pairs in the dance lesson. With a pair one can find new body shapes more easily.
The quadrangle in the picture is built with the 4-year old students. It was a bit difficult for them to see the shape on the floor at first, so we had to step back to look at it. It is also fun to dance on the shapes. First the children practised jumping both feet together, and then they could find their own dance movements in the quadrangle.
The shape dances are great example about suitable themes for children´s dance lessons. The shapes become familiar to the children in parks and in early education lessons during day care. Children just love to continue exploring the familiar themes in dance lessons as well. Dance education is not a separate part of little dancers´s life, instead it becomes a supporting element in childrens´over all growth.

Tanssitaan ja LEIKITÄÄN!
Joskus ajankohtaiset artikkelit tuntuvat kertovan juuri siitä me me teemme Taaperotanssitunneilla.
Viime torstaina ( 5.10 2017) Helsingin Sanomat julkaisi kaksi artikkelia Taaperotanssin ydinaiheista.

Ryhmäytymisesta - Becoming a group
Tanssituntien alkamisen jälkeen tunneilla ryhmäytymisen vaihe. Kokeilukerrat ovat takana, ja on päätetty aloittaa jossakin ryhmässä tanssiminen, sitouduttu uuteen harrastukseen ainakin vähäksi aikaa.
Lapset ja vanhemmat alkavat tuntua tutummilta. Opettajana autan ryhmäytymisessä, on tehtäviä, joissa tervehditään oman ryhmän jäseniä.
Ryhmäytymisellä on väliä, tanssissakin!
The beginning of the dance season is over. Now we are in the process of becoming a functioning group. Trying this or that group is over, everyone is committed to this dance hobby at least for a while.
All the children and adults seem familiar to each other at the dance lesson little by little. As a teacher I am actively working towards becoming a group. There are little assigments to say hello to each other during the dances. Becoming a group is very important for the children. Participating in a group activity is usually be new to children. It takes time to become familiar with all the children and all the adults in the group. This is the reason why I strongly recommend that a child is accompanied by the same adult during the first months. Becoming a groups is faster with same participants.
Becoming a group more easily is also behind my request that only one parent joins the participating child. There jsut isn´t room for two adults with every child, and the rules must be same for eveyone naturally. The bigger the group the slower the getting to know everyone is.
A parent might notice that if she or he is not present once, then the next time his or her child might start the introduction process all over, and it is certainly far more difficult for the child if the adults in the class are not the same, but new ones again.
It is admirable that both parents want to join their child in the new activity, but I find it is valuable to tthink this over from child´s perspective first. It is easier for children to handle new adults when the actual being in the dance lesson feel natural for them. One family made a desicion: the mother was the adult dancer during the autumn term and the father took over after Christmas. It worked very well! It really doesn´t matter if the adult in the dance lesson is a father or a mother, grandmom or care taker, as long as the adults stays the same at the beginning.
A couple of years ago I visited Child/ Adult dance lesson in Oslo, and in that school they had a practise, that the same children and adults participated the class every time. The group worked wonderfully, all the adults and children were close, which enabled the group to dance exercises and litte dances where children danced with different adults. Also the adults had become close with each other, new friendships had been formed.
So becoming a group really matters in dance as well!

Tanssitunnit alkavat elokuussa - Dance lessons begin in August
Suosittelen erityisesti tanssitunteja itsenäisesti aloittaville 3-4-vuotiaiden lastentanssin aamutuntia torstaisin.
It is still summer outside, but now it is the time to find a dance lesson for the autumn term. In the picture above, there is an advertising picture of Espoon Tanssiopisto, and if you look closely, there is also a lovely young dancer in the picture. One can come to dance lessons even with the little ones, age 1-3 years. Those lessons are called Child/ adult dance lessons.
The 3-4 years old can also take a dance lessons by themselves without their parents I warmly recommend the Thursday morning lessons for the 3-4 years old children, who are just beginning their first dance hobby. The mornings are especially suitable for young ones to participate in the art education lessons, because children are very lively and able to concentrate well at that time of the day. There are also usually fewer children in the morning groups than in the evening groups.
More about the enrolment to childrens`dance lessons - see the link above.
You are most welcome to dance in the morning or in the evening!

"daCin hengessä" "The spirit of daCi"

| Espoon Tanssiopiston oppilaat |
Kuopion daCi Europe 2017 - tapahtumassa daCin henki toteutui. Oppilaat kävivät eri tanssin lajien tunneilla eri opettajien ohjauksessa.

DaCi the word comes from Dance ( D) and (A) the Child (C) International (I). Dancers, dance educators, choreographers, dance researchers and all who are willing to speak for dance education for young people and dance research in general can be part of the daCi Community. daCi Community is formed by all the member countries all around the globe. daCi Community is a non-profit organization, and its` goal is to promote dance for young people. The elements of the "daCi Spirit" are learning, sharing ideas, creating equal possibilities for every one and working together.
In Kuopio the principal ideas of daCi Community were carried out. The students took part in different dance lessons by different dance teachers. The picture above is from the last day´s daCi dance performance at the Kuopio market square. The dance concert happened also to be the opening event of the Kuopio Tanssii ja Soi - Internationa Dance Festival. All the daCi Europe 2017 participants were also invited to the Kuopio City Hall for a reception hosted by the town of Kuopio.
The teachers danced themselves, followed dance lessons by other teachers and had their own discussion event for sharing ideas and getting to know each other. It was ecpecially interesting to hear views about dance from our Estonian teachers and see performances by Estonian dance students. The quest teachers Maria Speth and Nele Vandeneede from the Netherlands also had significant ideas about the dance education. Maria and Nele are both active at the daCi Community, so they could tell more about how daCi works internationally.
The students found it "cool" to try out new dance genres, to get to know new people, perform and "experience the school accomodation". Many of the teachers said, that they found a new way of looking at their own work and felt "refreshened" after long winter. For myself the most important thing was to be reminded once again, that "It is worthwhile to go out to the world" to experience and learn. This time the "daCi sprit" was found. I warmly recommend !
